Purchasing

Cost-effective and safe supply to the company at high quality standards

Purchasing occupies an important position in the CLAAS value chain. We decrease price risks – particularly in the fields of steel and oil – and assure the quality of purchased materials, services and investments. The selection of innovative suppliers is a significant contribution to the competitiveness of CLAAS products. We aim to establish supplier partnerships with the most important suppliers. In the course of this process, we contact suppliers from all over the world.

Organisation

At CLAAS, Purchasing is structured in the form of a multi-dimensional matrix and linked with other functional areas. It consists of Corporate Purchasing, the purchasing organisation of the various sites and the intersite proFIT and PSP teams.

  • Corporate Purchasing Harsewinkel
Corporate Purchasing ensures a uniform procurement policy across the entire group. This is where principles and guidelines for purchasing are developed, strategic problems in supplier management are solved, process optimisations are created and purchasing services as well as projects of the product companies are supported. more
  • Site purchasing of the product companies
The decentralised purchasing departments ensure the efficient supply of all product companies with goods, investments and services. Apart from negotiating good conditions, they strive toward obtaining the best possible product and supply quality. more
  • proFIT teams
With the interdisciplinary and intersite commodities group teams, the so-called proFIT teams, benefits are used in respect of product, market and supplier knowledge and synergies achieved in all areas, through intergroup co-operation. Each team consists of an employee from Purchasing, Research & Development, Quality Management and Production. The proFIT teams are supported by the Corporate Supply Council (CSC), which consists of the Purchasing Managers and the Managers from those functions represented in the proFIT teams.
  • PSP teams
NPRM Purchasing (Non-Product-Related-Materials) and its international PSP teams (Profit-Speed-Process) work on current purchasing subjects on an intersite basis. The teams are comprised both of purchasers and of managers from the respective business areas. This ensures that a comprehensive product and market knowledge is entered into the team.
The PSP teams are managed by lead buyers and their objective is the bundling of volumes, the implementing of joint interests and the processing of requirements of the respective business areas (internal customers) at the best possible quality. The focus hereby lies on an optimal price/performance ratio.
